Funding Opportunities: Fulbright-Hays Faculty and Doctoral Dissertation Research Abroad – Applications Due 12 p.m., November 13
The International Fellowships office, an activity of the International Institute, serves as a resource center, and provides information and support to faculty, students, and staff interested in identifying international research, grants, fellowships, scholarships, and other funding opportunities. There are currently two funding opportunities available, the Fulbright-Hays Faculty Research Abroad (FRA) and the Fulbright-Hays Doctoral Dissertation Research Abroad (DDRA), and all applications are due at 12 p.m., Friday, November 13.
The Fulbright-Hays Faculty Research Abroad (FRA) 2010-11 Competition
The Fulbright-Hays Faculty Research Abroad program is designed to contribute to the development and improvement of modern foreign language and area studies in the United States by providing opportunities for scholars to conduct research abroad. This program funds fellowships through institutions of higher education (IHEs) to faculty members who propose to conduct research abroad in modern foreign languages and area studies to improve their skills in languages and their knowledge of the culture and people of these countries. Funds support, travel expenses to and from the residence of the fellow and the country or countries of research; a maintenance stipend for the fellow related to his or her academic year salary; and an allowance for research-related expenses overseas such as books and photocopying, tuition, affiliation fees, local travel, and other incidental expenses. This program provides grants to institutions of higher education to fund faculty to maintain and improve their area studies and language skills by conducting research abroad for periods of three to 12 months. Proposals focusing on Western Europe are not eligible.

The Fulbright-Hays Doctoral Dissertation Research Abroad (DDRA) 2010-11 Competition
The Fulbright-Hays Doctoral Dissertation Research Abroad program provides grants to colleges and universities to fund individual doctoral students who conduct research in other countries, in modern foreign languages, and area studies for periods of six to 12 months. Projects deepen research knowledge on and help the nation develop capability in areas of the world not generally included in U.S. curricula. Projects focusing on Western Europe are not supported.
