“Our Campus, Our World” Social Justice Conference

February 23, 2009

Announcing the L&S Honors First Annual Social Justice Conference

Call for Abstracts!

We are looking for students who want to share about what they care about! We feel that our society is at a very significant crossroads in history. At this moment the world community faces both tremendous challenges and tremendous opportunities, the UW-Madison campus included.

Lead by the L&S Honors Program, the Our Campus, Our World social justice conference serves to provide an opportunity for students to make choices that forge a new direction within the community of UW-Madison.

The “Our Campus, Our World” social justice conference is a great opportunity for you to share your ideas, student group work, artwork or academic work about how we can make our world a better place. Several L&S Honors Program students have designed this two-day conference to create a space for all students to be able to present their research and ideas for change.

If you are interested in helping shape and create this event by presenting a paper or project, we would love to hear from you!

Abstract submission guidelines are as follows:

  • Submission can be up to 500 words. Individuals or groups can submit ideas. Abstract submissions must be written, even if accompanying submission is not.
  • Conference abstracts can describe academic research or a paper, art work or performance, student group presentations, or individual presentations. Abstracts should reflect past work or ideas for the future concerning social justice issues on the UW-Madison campus or outside of UW-Madison. If you have questions about your idea, please let conference supporters know at honors@honors.ls.wisc.edu.
  • All abstracts submitted to honors@honors.ls.wisc.edu by March 13th, 2009. Students whose papers are accepted or projects are unique, thoughtful and insightful will have a chance to present their paper during the conference on April 24th or 25th .

Additionally, there will be a panel of student organizationsdiscussing their role on the UW-Campus. If you would like your organization to be represented on this panel, please submit a 500 word statement about both how your student organization actively works towards positive change in our University community and the issues that you face on our campus. This statement should also be submitted to honors@honors.ls.wisc.edu by March 13th, 2009.

Co-sponsored by:
