Jeremi Suri on the Legacy of Korean War

October 18, 2005

In an op. ed. in the October 18, 2005 edition of Chosun Ibo, the leading Korean newspaper, UW-Madison professor Jeremi Suri writes about “the real history of the Korean War.”  Professor Suri argues that “high-level government records from Russia and China, released in the 1990s, reveal [that] the leaders of North Korea, the Soviet Union, and the People’s Republic of China coordinated their plans in 1950 to launch a surprise attack on South Korea. They aimed to spread communist influence, dominated by Moscow, throughout Northeast Asia.” The English language version of the op. ed. follows the Korean translation at the link below.
